Mentorship

3-month one-on-one poem-writing program with me:

  1. 1 prompt every week to which you will write 1 poem + my edits and revision based on that poem

  2. Weekly poem imitation exercise – I will suggest 1 poem you must imitate every week 

  3. Every week, I will choose a poem we can discuss & write our thoughts on / close-study it together

By the end of the 3 months:

  1. You will have left with 12 almost-ready poem drafts + lots of editorial insights + a good idea of how you usually write

  2. Learned to identify & incorporate skills and techniques some poets employ in their work

  3. Read some interesting poems, gathered some interesting resources

My aim:

  1. To equip you with reading a poem like a poet

  2. To make you confident in taking strange leaps and executing fresh moves in your own work

  3. To free you & empower you to write the kinds of poems you want to write

Total fee: ₹21,000

Application process: please send me your five best poems on kunjana.parashar@gmail.com. I will get back to you with my decision in 20 days at the latest.

Please note: this is a collaborative process and not a magical one. You will have to send me your poems on time so I can work with you. You will not start to write like your favourite poet overnight, or ever. You will write like yourself, like we all do, over time. And that is the goal. To reach nearer to our obsessions, to return to the themes we resonate with, to discover our own style while also nudging ourselves just a bit to try other styles.

My limitation: unfortunately, if you are looking to learn more about poetic metre, I’m not the right person for you. My own work has a kind of rhythm and musicality to it but not necessarily in a strictly metrical sense.
