Editing

Here is a sample of how I edit poems and/or provide revision suggestions. I would like to thank poet Shubhi Dixit for very generously permitting me to share my edits on her poems.

Testimonials

“Kunjana’s editorial feedback on my poems has been transformative – it is both microscopic and holistic, drawing into the poem’s subtleties as well as larger context. She takes the time to give the poems the feedback they need and deserve! Her suggestions feel less like edits and more like novel pathways with which to perceive one’s work, offered as part of a creative partnership. It was an absolute privilege and delight to have my work looked at with such care and detail. Thank you Kunjana! Excited to work on it all!”

Samreen Chhabra

“Kunjana’s edits were close and incisive, attentive and care-driven. She approached my work with respect and she gave me the gift of her perspective, one that is informed by both practice and reading. I could trust that she wanted my poems to say more clearly and ambitiously what I was already trying to say in them, not what she thought I should be saying. She also saw through the padding, identifying clearly what was superfluous and making it obvious to me. And I was grateful for the rich reading list as well.”

What I will offer in all of the plans above:

  1. I will list your places of power.
  2. Broad edits or possibilities for revision, whichever is more applicable or perhaps a mix of both.
  3. Suggest a couple of poems to trigger your thoughts in either a similar direction or a completely new one, whichever I think will help the poems.

Non-negotiables:

  1. I will read your work first. If it seems like a set I can take on, I will take it on. If not, I will pass on it.
  2. Please pay in advance.
  3. Expect me to be kind but honest & firm.
  4. I reserve the right to refuse to review your poems in case I find anything too graphic or racist or homophobic or gendered in it.

Manuscript and Chapbook Consultations:

Please send me a sample of 10 poems at kunjana.parashar@gmail.com along with a short note about the main themes or obsessions of your manuscript or chapbook. If the poems align with my style and timeline, I would be happy to take on your work. Once I receive your entire manuscript, I will be able to design a more customised plan for you that works for both of us. The charges will depend on the amount of work involved.
